The short version: MarkMarkDown does not collect, sell, or share personal data. It has no accounts, no tracking, no advertising, and no analytics. Your Markdown files stay on your Mac.
The app
MarkMarkDown is a native macOS application. You do not create an account, sign in, or connect a cloud service. The app does not include third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.
Apple's App Store privacy label for MarkMarkDown is Data Not Collected.
Documents and folder access
MarkMarkDown works with the files and folders you choose. It does not scan your disk or read documents you have not opened.
macOS App Sandbox may ask you to grant access to the folder containing a document. That access is used to:
- Read the document you opened
- Display local images referenced by the document
- Save pasted or dragged images beside the document
- Rename the document when you change its title
The app stores security-scoped bookmarks locally so it can reopen documents you have chosen. These bookmarks remain on your Mac and are not sent anywhere. You can review or revoke folder access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders.
Preferences, recents, and drafts
Settings such as theme, type size, line numbers, and auto-save are saved locally using macOS app preferences. Recent document paths and bookmarks are also stored locally so the sidebar can show your recent files. Untitled drafts are kept locally for recovery.
This information is not transmitted to a server. You can remove recent documents from the sidebar at any time. Removing the app and its local data removes the associated preferences.
Images and network access
Local images are loaded from the folder you granted access to. If a Markdown document references an image by URL, MarkMarkDown may request that image from the remote server so it can display it in the preview.
Those requests are made only for images in documents you open. The remote server may receive standard technical information, such as your IP address and user agent, as with any web request. MarkMarkDown does not send your document contents, account information, or usage data along with those requests.
No analytics or tracking
MarkMarkDown does not collect usage analytics, crash reports, advertising identifiers, or device fingerprints. It does not track you across apps or websites, and it does not use cookies for tracking.
Apple may collect diagnostic or purchase information through the App Store according to your macOS settings and Apple's own privacy policy. That data is handled by Apple, not by MarkMarkDown.
